Bikes on Scotland's west-coast trains

Geoff Southworth has pointed out that at least one rail area is taking notice of cyclists:

Stockport’s plans for cycling and walking

Stockport has been allocated signifcant funding to develop new cycle routes. You can view Stockport’s plans here: https://consultation.stockport.gov.uk/policy-performance-and-reform/mayors-cycling-and-walking-challenge-fund/. It may take some time if you want to look at all the detail, but you can select the parts that interest you and you can submit comments online. There are written descriptions as well as highways department maps for each scheme.

If you want to look at GM as a whole (the Bee Network), then the interactive map at https://mappinggm.org.uk/bee-network/ is a useful resource. It’s also easier to read than some of the Stockport maps because you can zoom in and also choose which information to display.

Robinson’s Brewery Tour

Neil Hepburn was wondering if anyone would be interested in this tour. It lasts 60 — 75minutes and includes three 1/3 pint samples. It costs adults £9.95, concessions £8.95. Maybe, either before or after, we could go for a pub lunch. If anyone is interested please contact me on hepburnneil7@gmail.com.

David Wiggins

It is with great sadness that we learnt of the untimely death of SMCTC member David Wiggins. David was well-known to regular Wednesday Vets riders and was riding regularly with us until only a few weeks ago. He died of pancreatic cancer, aged just 63. He was such a popular rider, always cheery and chatty, and was normally very fit, having been a runner and also a member of Stockport Community Cycling Club, as well as a Bikeability trainer for kids in Stockport. He will be missed very much, and our hearts go out to his wife, Helen, and family.

The funeral is to be held on Thursday October 31st at 2.30 pm at Stockport Crematorium. Then at the Elizabethan on Heaton moor Road, Heaton Moor, Stockport.

If any CTC friends wish to come on their bikes and dressed in Lycra then that will be great. (A number of SMCTC members plan to attend by bike — details to follow.)
